• Is Gambling the Solution to Poverty?

      Gambling is one of the most common forms of relaxation at the present time. People usually visit gambling places to release stress that they experience in workplaces and in their households. In this regard, gambling is also considered as another sector of the entertainment industry.

      Gambling refers to any event that includes the betting of money or any valuable possessions with the hope of increasing one's properties. There are different forms of gambling which range from casino games to sports betting. Casino games include slots, roulette and card games such as poker. On the other hand, sports that usually involve betting are jai-alai games.

      The birth of casinos is caused by the increasing popularity of gambling in the society. Casinos are places wherein playing gambling games is considered as legal. Many people are hooked with gambling because they believe that it may be their last hope of increasing their money or possessions.

      Even if some social and religious groups oppose the existence of gambling, local and national officials began developing laws that legalize gambling in their jurisdiction. The increasing support of public authorities for legalized gambling maybe one of the causes of the growing numbers of gambling establishments in communities. But is it true that gambling can solved problems related to poverty?

      Poverty is a common social problem in every nation. Even if national governments are providing funds to people who are suffering from poverty, they still remain in such economic condition. The continuous existence of poverty in the society led most of them to depend their future on gambling.

      Gambling may be seen by most people as the only way of improving their lives. But some gamblers failed to realize that gambling may only cause them further financial problems. Most gambling games are known to be games of chances and so there is a great possibility that gamblers may lose.

      The existence of the term "problem gambling" shows how gamblers were hooked with gambling games. Most gamblers experience problem gambling which is known to be the desire of a person to bet even if the gambler knows that there is a little chance of winning.

      Gambling can be another source of income for gamblers. However, it is not advisable that gamblers bet all their resources or most of their money because there is a 50-50 possibility of winning in every gambling game. Poverty may be solved through other means, but gambling should not be considered one of the solutions to poverty.
